Preface: I used to be based in LA on a visa. I'm returning with a green card. I have a decent reel with some recognizable credits. I recently signed with a new manager and I will be moving back to LA after living in my home country for a number of years. I am no longer with my old LA agent and I'll be looking to join a…

being unrepresented, it sucks. i have a decent reel, but no professional credits. i am union, but not aea. the self submission side of AA is basically nothing, and backstage is all shitty unpaid non union films. i'm at a loss here. i refuse to pay to play, and the agents that do those are not good agents anyway, but I…

Hi guys. When I say weak choice, I'm not talking about bad acting, I'm talking about when you are able to deliver the text with proper intonation and emotion, but the character choice is weak? I hate the idea of strong vs weak characters, since they are all characters, but lets pretend we are talking about J-law in Win…

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT AN ACTOR AND HAVE NEVER ACTED IN MY LIFE. My friend is a film student and I volunteered to play the main role for an 8 minute film for his class(so no pressure really). He's directing the film and I have been doing amateur fashion photography for 2 years now, so I understanding framing, editing and…

Hey fellow actors. So I will be in an upcoming show and I’m not sure I’m connected with my character enough. I know with rehearsing and practicing the craft this issue will go away. But I was just wondering, what are some things you all do to prepare yourself for a character?

Firstly, I apologize if I’m unaware, I’m a new user. I’ve had many accounts over the years but never really got the hang of it. Anyway, my high school’s spring musical is only about a week out. We’re doing Oklahoma and I’m casted as Curly. I feel like I’m doing better and better by the day but I didn’t know there would…

Hello there, Professional actor working in London, UK (Canadian Citizen) and will be coming back to Canada to persue a professional career. I don't use a CV typically as our main Casting Website has all the information CDs require. I'm getting murmurs about updating resumes, but in a the era of digital age, is it relev…

random reddit person, I know, but i've been trying to find a person to do this with for a long time and none of my actor friends in NYC have any interest in moving to LA, mainly becuase they are here for musical theatre, and i'm all about tv/film. anyway, i'm a 30 year old male, SAG, plenty of indie/low budget film exp…

We’re in the most important week of the year for all Christians. And this year #internationaltheatreday falls right on it. 2 very important parts of my life. 2 very strong defining characteristics of my self and my life. And I just wanted to know, for any other “religious” people out there (catholic or not!) how do you…

i invented a silly product and i want to create a commercial to showcase it. i'm looking for people that are funny, creative, and affordable. i don't have a specific age/gender/body type for the actors/actresses that i'm looking for. i would be happy with giving up quite a bit of creative control for the commercial. i'…

Hey y’all, a technique I’ve had some training in is Laban. It’s been very useful to me as an actor that can have trouble with emotional availability, and it’s pretty diversely applicable. I’ve used it in Chekhov, Modern plays, and most recently a Shakespeare showcase here in LA. Just looking to foster a nice discussion…

I'm directing a play/theater production at my college and have run into a dilemma. The play requires a scene showing a strip club...it doesn't matter which, but it either has to be a male strip club or a female strip club. That means either a group of male actors is going to have to be in their boxers or a group of fem…

Hey all, this question is specific, but the general gist is: should some work be left off your resume even if it means empty space because it will actively turn casting directors away from you? More specifically: I've done a couple of jobs for Golden Era Productions, aka Scientology, but...

Right now I am in a production that involves my character weeping over the dead body of another. The director told me to take myself emotionally somewhere that would cause me to naturally react in that way during the scene. Yesterday, when performing the scene, I think I may have went too far. I don’t even know what I…

I'm acting on camera for the first time on a very amateur student short film, I accepted because I wanted to get the experience. Hey all! I've been watching some videos featuring Scott Sedita, an acting coach and author out of California. Stand ups and improvisers can get on stage every night and do a show but actors have to prepare more and shows don't seem as immediate. Auditions? Classes? Small theater?
Reddit · 26 Mar 2018
First off, I have the utmost respect for actors; it’s a tough craft and it looks easy until it’s painfully obvious someone that someone can’t act. Why do I want to take acting classes? I moonlight as a writer, and I’ve heard anecdotes of acting classes helping them with characterization and the rhythm of dialogue. I do…

I'm still pretty new to acting- I've been doing this for less than a year. Eventually I'm wanting to relocate t…

I'm taking acting classes currently with an actor represented by a big agency in Canada. It was purely a coincidence, but I've had my eyes set on that same agency for when I'm ready to be represented. I've read that agents can refer actors to another agency, but would an actor do the same? Or is that unethical?

Has having these accounts really helped you if you are a signed actor? I eventually plan on making one but I feel like until I have booked a job or two it’s not worth the investment. What do you guys think? Do you get inquired often or are you just submitting via their awful search engines?

As the title says. Is it normal for an agent to demand that an actor never discuss what he's being paid with other actors on a set, or with the client/production staff? It seems kind of fishy to not be allowed to talk to anyone about what you're being paid. How do you guys feel about it?

I'm interested in exploring the relationship between actor and audience. How do you do the play without completely ignoring the audience, or (on the other end of the spectrum) catering to their reactions (e.g. wanting laughs or applause). I would love to know what you all think! Thanks a bunch

I've been reading here often that CDs want to see actors be confident with themselves on and off camera, which I understand on their part. Thoughts on firefighting and acting at the same time? With the general trend being 24 on 48 off (though some time on call), it seems to me that at least training should not be a problem.
