I just started watching Sterling Point on prime and the actors in this show are just phenomenal. i’ve gotten into the habit of really observing actors whenever i’m watching a show or movie nowadays and i was so so impressed with all of the actors performances. Bo Bragason specifically was so great to watch, she felt so natural in her character and it was just such a great performance. Perhaps these actors aren’t all “new” faces, but it was my first time seeing them in a show and i was really impressed! this goes to show that the tv and film industry thrives on new faces being introduced. So many movies and tv shows this year have featured lesser known actors and have been embraced by consumers with gusto. Idk i guess this was just a bit of a rant/ discussion ive been thinking about!
I Think theyre just hiring security guards but they're calling it casting for music video. They need 30 security guards for each date of the tour to "play body guards." Has anyone done this gig on a previous show and can vouch for its legitmacy? The ai art is a big red flag too.

We want to see if you have the chops to completely disappear into a role in a real-world environment on camera. **The Concept:** Can an actor can be so convincing that they can seamlessly pass as a drug addict right on Skid Row. I’m a non-union actor in Los Angeles signed with a reputable agency and have been taking classes pretty consistently for 5 years. I’ve been living in LA for 11 years but didn’t move there to act, and just kinda fell into acting but love it. My background before is in science and healthcare. With that being said, I feel like I’m in a place in life where I have to move back home in South Texas (family and money stuff) to start in my regional/local market. It’s small but I think it might be smart to “fill out” my regional first, AND THEN try NYC. Never lived there but I think I would love it. I’ve heard the acting scene and culture in NYC is also more intellectual than LA which might be a better match for me. Does that sound like a good plan? I’m 34 but look like I’m in my 20s and also have a masters in the healthcare field. I know I could pursue a PhD in Science or something more “up there” but I want to keep acting no matter what. Any thoughts? I feel like I have to do what I have to do in this crazy industry and career.
I had an accident a few years ago which meant I had to have my four bottom front teeth extracted. I since have had a 4 unit bridge fitted on two implants. I haven't worked in tv/film since before the surgery but I've been really missing acting and am considering dipping my toes back in. Luckily I smile with my top teeth, but if I show my bottom teeth it's quite obvious they are fake. I'm planning to get the bridge redone as I'm not happy with how it looks, but even so, I'm wondering if it will prevent me from getting roles. I know not all actors have perfect teeth, but I don't think I've met anyone with the same issue as me. Are there any options or is there any hope for me?

As we all know, acting is not the most financially stable career path. On top of being an actor, I'm also currently a student. I have a part time job working at a bakery, and it was great because my general manager was so understanding and gave me incredibly flexible hours. However, she recently got fired and I've lost that. It's really hard to find a part time job that allows me to go to school/do homework and audition/work on productions whenever I get cast at the same time. I tried searching for a different but so far no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions for jobs that have flexible hours or companies that tend to be flexible? TL;DR - I lost flexible hours at my current job due to my manager getting fired. I'm having trouble finding another flexible job that allows me to focus on school and acting at the same time, does anyone have any suggestions?
I've got my first college audition coming up where I need monologues. I've never auditioned like this before, and I was wondering if anyone has any advice for the best way to go about this/what I should be aware of before going. How do I make myself stand out and not look like a fool. I come from a very small school where we barely had a theatre class, and I was a good actor then, but it's been a year since I've acted and I didn't really have competition. Any advice would be helpful, thanks!
So our neighborhood had a social tonight, which was great since my partner and I just moved here 2 months and 6 days ago. For reference, we moved out of the Atlanta market for his work. Most of the conversations were great and we made some authentic connections, but one with "J" really stood out. As close to verbatim as I can remember. J: "So what do you do?" Me: "I'm an actor!" J: "So... what do you really do? You obviously don't make your living from doing that?" Me: "Oh, actually, I've been freelance/self-employed since 2018 and I consider myself a full time actor." J: "Oh. So you work at a restaurant." Me: "... I don't." J: "There's no shame in being a server or bartender." .... later in the conversation .... J: "So what brought you to \[redacted for privacy\_\_location\]?" Me: "My partner matched at the medical residency program at \[redacted\]." J: "That explains a lot." Me: "What do you mean?" J: "Well, you know most actors wait tables and couldn't afford to live in a neighborhood like this. Or at least, that's the trope. But you know what they say about cliches - they gotta come from somewhere." ..... another time jump ..... J: "So what would I recognize you in?" Me: "Well, my goal is to be recurring on television, but my bread and butter has been commercial work." J: "Like what?" Me: "I actually sing in a Lexus commercial that's on TV right now!" J: "Oh! So I gotta pause it at just the right moment to see you!" There are about 2-3 other memorable moments from the conversation that bothered me, but honestly, just typing this out has been therapeutic in a way. It at least feels like it's off my chest. It's sucks to fight for years for a modicum of success, be proud of yourself, and then have a complete stranger tear it down in a single conversation without any regard. Brutal. Edited to add: There was one other person in our conversation, so I tried soooo hard to steer to other topics. Ask about his new retirement. Ask what they both recommend doing in the city. Ask about the other person's life, interests, etc., but "J" kept finding ways to bring it back to me and poke holes. Also, not saying this out of arrogance or anything like that, but I'm the breadwinner in our relationship, especially since residency is still part of training. I've worked hard, been strategic, and yes also been lucky, but it really stung to be shut down and have the implication that I'm somehow getting a free ride in life. Ugh. What are your conversation horror stories and how have you dealt?
I want to be an actress so bad. Like it genuinely breaks my heart thinking that I won’t ever make it. I know I have to be realistic about my future and pick a career path where i can make a stable income but the thought of not being able to choose acting as my stable career breaks my heart. I don’t want it to be something that I do on the side I want it to be my life. When was the moment u guys realized that you had to choose reality over passion ?? And how did you handle it?
I have a rather large following on one of my platforms and while I'm sure that could be utilized by some to grow their voice acting career, I wanted to keep my passions separate and private. So I guess my question is, is the scenario for Madeline Reiter, someone who uses a stage name with seemingly no identity to her name before her debut, an actual potential career path? Do you think she had another identity before she landed this role? Does anyone know the process to possibly following in her footsteps?
So I’m 28 years old and going on 29 in October and something I’ve always wanted to do since I was a kid is become a professional VA. But because of my age I’m worried that I’ve lost my moment and even if I start now I wouldn’t have enough time to have it as a career. I’m worried my voice Isn’t good enough and when I listen to my voice in recordings it sounds really bad. The only experience I’ve really had in acting was working as a seasonal Scare Actor. I’ve auditioned for a couple roles through CastingCall but I can’t shake the feeling and thought that I might never reach that goal.
I’m an actor 24M currently living near the Riverside border (literally on the edge of Corona where it touches Yorba Linda), and I commute to Buena Park for my regular job. I’ve been considering moving closer to Los Angeles (West Hollywood) because I want to be around more actors, filmmakers, writers, and other people actively working in the industry. I also do have connections there for gigs whenever I do have to come to LA to work on a project or going to events. Another thing I should mention is that my producing partner and I have been considering becoming roommates and splitting an apartment together. Since we're both trying to build careers in the entertainment industry, we figured it could help us cut down on living expenses while also making it easier to work on projects together and support each other while we're trying to get established. My situation is a little unusual because I don’t necessarily want to leave my current job. The pay is steady, but more importantly, the hours are extremely flexible. Whenever I have an audition, a film project, a meeting, or something else related to acting/film, I can usually leave work or adjust my schedule without much trouble. That flexibility feels valuable, especially while I’m still building my career. The downside is that moving to LA would mean commuting away from LA to Buena Park for work, while living in LA mainly for the networking, auditions, classes, creative community, and filmmaking opportunities. Has anyone here done something similar living somewhere in LA but commuting outside the city for a flexible day job? Would the location and networking benefits of living in LA outweigh the commute, or would I be better off staying where I am and traveling into LA only when necessary? Is this kind of reverse commute common among actors, or am I overthinking the importance of physically living in LA?
I iove to act and, with slight confidence, would say I am quite good at it. My one dream is to be in a movie, and potentially become an actor, but being in a movie is the main goal. The only issue is that I am already 16. Additionally, my history of acting, not including plays in primary school, is a measly one play, and I feel as though I have not grasped the amazing opportunities that were previously handed to me. You see, my school has a pretty prominent drama scene, but I have only been in a singular play (and might I add, the compulsory one in Year 7), and whilst I got a lead role and was offered other roles after that in different plays, I turned my nose up at them as I was embarrassed because none of my close friends enjoyed drama. Looking back on it, I was so stupid! Now, however, I have realised that I really do love it, and I really want to be a part of an acting community. I just don't know where to begin, or if I am too old as loads of other people have been doing drama since they could freaking talk! Whenever I go to the theatre, I get such a strong desire to jump onto the stage and just start - it feels as though I just HAVE to do it; does anyone else get that? However, I have not been to any on-screen acting classes, which is where my particular focus is, I have not joined **prope**r drama classes nor volunteered at a theatre outside of school. Additionally, if you look at celebs in movies, you can see that they all began acting at young ages, and if I ever want to be in a movie that can be shown in cinemas, I have to catch up on 16years of acting! Therefore, my questions are where do I begin? Am I too old? And how the heck do I sign up to a casting website - I don't really mind not getting paid, but, living in London, where on earth do I find student films? I feel completely locked out of something that I so desperately want to do. Any help would be much appreciated; I literally don't know anything.

A few years back, I woke up to an audition request for the lead role in a major blockbuster film. I grew up watching the franchise, so booking the part would be a dream come true. I acted my ass off, submitted my tape, and prayed for good news (along with thousands of other Asian actors). I didn’t think anything would come of it, but a few weeks later, the producers finally reached out for a callback, then a chemistry read, until one day they said the two words many actors would commit war crimes to hear: screen test. For a week straight, I went to the studio lot for rehearsals, martial arts training, and director sessions. It was exhilarating. As the day approached, I felt on top of the world. No one was going to take this from me. I had to book this. Deep down, I doubted there would be another opportunity for someone like me for a long time. Sure, Asian markets might be hot right now, but how long would that last before “the powers that be” decided to move on to the next minority group? As a filmmaker, I always championed Asian American representation, but, in that moment, I championed my own individual representation. Fuck everyone else - I was “the best Asian guy.” The role was mine. I didn’t get the part. When I got the news, I was devastated… for about a day. Then, I quickly recognized my own hypocrisy and was forced to look within. For years, I have spoken on panels, done Q&A’s at film festivals, and talked about the importance of Asian American representation in the film industry. However, when presented with a life-changing opportunity, my attitude shifted to “Fuck these guys, I’m the best Asian.” This ultimately inspired the question — what do you do when your values are at odds with your ambitions? This inevitably led me to create “Flavor of the Month,” a dark comedy that explores the absurdities of representation politics in modern-day Hollywood. Viewed through the lens of a Chinese American actor, Harrison Huang, the film dives headfirst into themes of performative activism, virtue signaling, and internalized racial inferiority. I’ve been doing theater for 6 years now, I’m 19 and I’ve noticed something in all the videos I see of myself. I’m definitely more of a singer and actress than a dancer and have never been athletic. When I see videos of myself I feel like my movements, my whole body but especially my hands just look floppy and awkward? Like I know what I want to do it’s just when I apply it it makes me look so akward. I also am a musician, I’ve played piano my whole life so learning to stand up and sing at age 13ish was a big challenge for me because I didn’t know what to do with my hands. I want to improve on this so badly but no one seems to have the same problem, like I said I’ve never been athletic and have been thinking maybe dance would help, Advice? :(

Right now as an actor I’m in the phase where I’m trying to get myself rolling with my career and book student films for my reel. Do I get actors access or backstage?
I’m SAG and have been with my agency since 2021. I’ve never done an in-person audition until today. I’ve auditioned for and worked on multiple shows and films. In person auditions are SO much better. It was electric and seemed like a better way to feel out chemistry between scene partners and actors with the director. We really lose something when it’s uploaded Actor’s Access calls. It’s just flat and in a vacuum. Nothing in this industry happens like that on set. Even monologues have direction on set. Online auditions are just so far removed from the actual, physical reality of acting. So why is that so damn prevalent? I get the convenience aspect, but it’s just so dry and empty. I don’t think it’s an accurate way to get the measure of the actor. I’m also just an actor. I have a cowriting credit on a short. So I get that I’m biased. It just seems like night and day though. And it seems kind of lazy. Am I missing something?

Hello humble people! I'm in quite a good mood today but i'll cut straight to the point for you. Me and my family are moving into an apartment soon for reasons i won't specify. I've begged and begged for them to re-consider or atleast find nice homes for rent in the area. They simply cannot. It's just way too expensive to rent a home in the area we're moving into. This is a problem for me especially since, well,I'm a voice actor! Now I'm not entirely sure if I'm loud enough for my future neighbors to hear me.. But even if my neighbors cant hear me, my mom might unfortunately. I've kind of kept everything i do and love a secret from my family so i do NOT want my mom to hear me voice acing. Now i say my *MOM* specifically because everyone else is off to their jobs. So that reduces the load a little bit. We're not entirely sure how big the apartment will be, so don't ask me, but i hope it's a certainly big apartment. TLDR; How do I voice act in an apartment while making sure NOBODY can hear me, not my mom, not the neighbors, NOBODY. Any and all advice is well appreciated!

I just want to preface by saying I don't actually have an active dream to act or go into the field, but I thought I might get good insight from you guys. I have a problem with not being able to express myself facially or through tone like at all, it comes off sort of pretentious if that makes sense? Hi all, Currently in a dilemma here and looking for advice. As you all know, the industry is quite dead at the moment. Especially across the pond in the UK. I’ve had like 6 auditions in total this year, two of which I got down to the finals but unfortunately didn’t book. My agent said things are looking up towards next year. I have a ‘creative’ corporate day job and I’m grateful for it but I’m really unhappy. I’m in my early 20s and I can’t help but think I don’t belong in this life I’ve created. It’s extremely demanding, including expected networking and this industry is a career type job. I work overtime everyday and find that I’ve had to put acting on the back burner for the past few months. I thought having more income would mean I could afford to take classes etc, but I’m finding I’m dedicating my life to this job and it’s pulling me away from acting even more. I don’t think I can carry on like this but I’m not sure if I’m making a good decision in leaving as on paper it’s a great job. I’m in the final pool of people for a job in a film production company which would also be a corporate job but more industry adjacent so maybe I’d feel happier there? I worry I’ll feel the same after a while but also worry if that’s a conflict of interest? Can actors work in production companies? Equally I’m thinking I should commit to the artist bit and go back into a flexible non corporate job (theatre staff/hospitality/something else). I’m telling myself if it doesn’t work out, I can always go back to a 9-5, but truthfully I really don’t like the lifestyle. I have my weekends back but I feel like it doesn’t suit my soul. If any other actors (London based or not), can tell me what job you do that allows you to still commit to acting that would be greatly appreciated.

My questions to the community are: The Roadmap: How does someone in my position, located in Iraq, realistically start building a path to the international market? Digital vs. Physical: Should I focus on virtual/remote auditions and self-taping first, or is there a tangible "first step" I should take locally to build a reel that would be considered credible by international casting directors? The Strategy: What are the actual requirements to get noticed from here? How do I transition from training to booking real, professional roles? The "How-To": What is the step-by-step evolution I need to follow to eventually move from acting in Iraq to auditioning for international projects? Hey actors looking for some advice here, my professor who motivated me to pursue my acting MFA told me I’d land a better agent if I get into a top school. I went on a internet investigation to figure out the rep I’m aiming for and what schools have ties to said agency, and it has me wondering if it’s even guaranteed better representation can be found through school? I’ve been acting professionally straight out of high school for about 4 years now. I’m M22 and I’m in university for a BA in Cinema (debating of minoring in theatre). I catapulted myself in my schools theatre program and ended up falling in love with the only two acting classes I took. After preforming my final piece for my class, my professor came up to me and said I should pursue a MFA. I never really thought about it until someone told me I could do it. Ever since I’ve been researching what it takes to get into a MFA program and I’m interested in learning more. I have the privilege to be signed by a local agency as well, their focus is mostly commercial modeling and runway work but they do have an acting division. The acting division in a way feels not as strong as the modeling side for this agency. I’ve modeled for a few big brands and on the acting side I haven’t booked anything. The acting auditions I get through them are rare, and out of the handful of roles I’ve received aren’t even speaking characters. The catch is I’ve managed to self book several films and commercials, two of the commercials are tied with Disney. I found these jobs through networking, social media, casting networks, etc. Luckily these have helped me build a foundation and a solid reel but I keep asking myself how do I get to the next level? How to get in the rooms that gives you a shot to audition for characters.

From my perspective, I see tides turning a bit in a positive direction. Not being inundated with auditions...but they've definitely been more consistent. Feels like 2024 and 2025 we were lucky to get 1-2 a month, if that. But now auditioning about once a week which feels like a lot comparatively. Anybody else agree or disagree? My name is Justin Pierce, and I'm a Chicago-based playwright looking for two more of eight actors to participate in a developmental reading of my new wacky end-of-the-world play, Tia and Inez in Cometville. This first reading will be held online via Discord. Actors from anywhere are welcome to reach out, but preference will be given to Chicago-area performers, as I'm planning to organize in-person readings and further development of the play in Chicago in the future. ABOUT THE PLAY Five days before a massive comet destroys Earth, Tia embarks on a road trip with her friends to stop her ex-girlfriend, Inez, from doing something drastic. Along the way, she encounters cannibal cultists, revolutionaries, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and a galaxy-spanning conspiracy. It's a science-fiction road-trip play with elements of dark comedy, horror, and absurdity, centered around love, identity, and what people choose to do when they believe the world is ending. My dreams are slowly coming true and I just wanna share it in a space. As a kid I grew up with video games and always wanted to act in them, so I decided when I was young I would be a voice actor. You should have seen my suprise when I was 11 and discovered motion capture is an actual thing. But my country isn't the biggest so from my 12th I focused on theater as a hobby and then as I turned 18 I went to an actual theater school. From there on I moved to London and went to film school and mostly have worked in the film sector with some theater and voice on the side but my big dream was still always motion capture for video games and I always kept training for it with all sorts of weapons training and martial arts. Now after doing workshops in mocap and reaching out to studios I finally got in contact with an agency that soly focuses on motion capture and I GOT ACCEPTED! I even had my first big mocap auditon today and omg I live and breath for mocap. ITS SO FUN! Usually during self tapes and auditions I just feel annoyed as I wanna do the real big thing but with motion capture I even love the self tapes and auditions. Hoping I land the role and to many more!
Hello! I’m looking to switch reps and have a few questions. I haven’t applied anywhere in a long time , so please bear with me. It seems like everyone recommends using Actors Access or Casting Workbook profiles to submit with, however mine obviously still lists my current rep. Is this harmful? Do you recommend submitting materials another way? When writing your pitch, do you mention you’re switching reps, looking for new rep, etc- ? Any answers or further tips are much appreciated!

There's this narrative that Asians can't be actors because it's a high risk field. Well in general, I think it is because from what I've heard, only a few are selected to be the chosen ones ascending to A-list level. But what I find extremely unhelpful is that everyone around me is against the idea. Unfortunately, I grew up with the typical Asian parents who dictate what your future should look like. That is, doctor, lawyer, accountant, engineer and other traditional fields. Literally everyone, including extended relatives, their sons and daughters are going to these exact same fields. Not only that but also on the internet, I get mean snarky comments that are super unhelpful and very ambition-destroying, creating feelings of hopelessness. They turn personal and start insulting me and calling me delusional and grandiose. Simu Liu dreamt of being an actor and similar to me, he had to fight off asian parents and the status quo to make that happen. Then eventually, an opportunity came up and it made him famous compared to before. Now I understand not every actor will get this, but I also understand that if you don't try, it's guaranteed to never happen. I find it very difficult to find support, especially when it comes to finding out what I want for my destiny. Family is against me, internet strangers are against me and both of them are fueling my internal self-doubts which also work against me. In addition, there are less characters available to play in Hollywood because there aren't that many people writing up stories of asian-based characters in the first place. I'm just feeling a little regret because I'm 24 now and it's still going to take 2 more years before I finally finish my degree. On the other hand, there's already a lot of Gen Z actors that've been playing the game since 10 years ago. They had supportive parents that are willing to risk it and sadly, that's not really the case in most Asian households. I'm feeling like all I have is myself if I want to do whatever I want to do in life.
Hello, I am a 14 year old male who always wanted to start acting, I was wondering if anybody could give me advice.. I am pretty anxious and insecure since I was bullied back then so I never really wanted my face to be seen so I never asked my parents to let me join an acting class, but honestly I'm starting to care less about how I look on camera and I've got alot of hobbies but I always wanted to become an actor, idk if this is important but i speak like 6 languages and have the highest level u can get in the education system here in Curaçao. I always wanted to get out of this place, be well known and get young fans to relate to me or help people out, I always wanted to live in a country with skyscrapers or have my name be known. Any tips?? And is acting way too difficult for a 14 year old to handle and still be sane?
hi, i’m a female teen actor! i’m signed with a local sag agency and i’ve done a commercial & student film before, but i’m still struggling to find my footing & would love some advice. i know the whole deal with self-tapes, but im not sure how to make an effective demo reel (or really what the difference is?). i was signed with basically no experience (dont worry, not a scam - just an impressive audition tape!) and my agent has pointed me in the direction of some places that will create a demo reel for you at a steep price, but obviously i’d rather not pay. is a demo reel just a self tape with a monologue? or is it an actual scene out of a film? how do i create one that stands out…. and how do i choose the right monologue, just something off of stage milk? should i use clips from the commercial & student film (where i don’t speak)? i’m really excited to get into acting, but it’s pretty hard to get even an audition or call back if i don’t know how to make an effective demo reel, lol. i’ve watched some videos on youtube and looked through faq, but all it’s really done is confuse me more. looking for some guidance! thanks :)
I am a local sag actor based in Boston. It feels like audition opportunities through Boston Casting are few and far between. Are they just super selective with who they call in / stick to a tight pool of favorites? In a smaller market like Boston, it can be discouraging when local actors don’t get the opportunity to audition for the major projects coming through. Would love to hear other local actors’ experience.

is it just me or is it really hard to get signed as a non union actor? I am self submitting auditioning , have headshots, reel etc… doing a workshop next month with a well known manager and of course I hope I do well. But it’s hard out here for sure. And I do believe exposure doing workshops and showcases do help when it’s the right one.
Does she know Stella Adler (a woman) was one of the best teachers for method acting? Method is now seen as a joke thanks to people who are NOT method acting but just being pricks (like Leto). These (very few) actors like Daniel Day Lewis or Heath Ledger were using ideas based on method acting but they were also making their own stuff, staying on character after the cut was never a thing in any of the schools for method. Now the whole idea is demonized or wrongly attached to these male actors which is ridiculous and ignorant imo.
so one of my favorite actors that I want to work with follows me on IG, which is so cool a lot of people think I should play a family relative of hers on the show I do see the vision and it’s literally my dream even if it’s a little hard to dream of it since I am currently unrepresented but it’s a nice dream to have?? here is a cute collage of us side by side, she means the world to me and hopefully one day I get a chance to act alongside her.
I want to be clear that this sub has been very helpful for a bunch of different reasons and I think overall it is a net positive to have a community like this. But lately, I've been seeing a lot of posts with a tone similar to that of "the industry has changed so much that no more regular working actors can live anymore and only the top one percent are ever going to succeed, and it's never been this bad, and this is just going to be how it is from now on." While I never want to disregard someone's lived experiences/feelings, I've realized that for me, reading those posts and comments makes me feel so down about myself and where I'm looking to go in my acting career, rather than pushing me to be the best actor I can be. I'm not delusional; the industry is very slow right now, but I also know that there is still opportunity out there and that I just need to give it time. Just wanted to offer this perspective in case anyone needed to hear it. Yeah, it may suck a bit right now, but keep looking for the light that keeps you going.
Hello people, first question here. I am just an amateur who definitely does not want to get ahead of himself since I haven’t even taking any sort of acting classes whatsoever lol. I was entertaining the possibility of acting because I like art and partaking of large pieces of art is obviously an appealing idea, but I was having some small doubts about the whole process. But before you answer, I would like to propose a hypothetical scenario. Let’s say that you are an actor or actress at a show in a streaming platform, to give an easy example. You give your all to this project and try to do your best to exceed at the paper that you have been cast to do, but for some reason such as a shaky plot or general animosity from the public over political/social commentary, the show ends up being absolutely terrible according to total earnings and the critics. Would that impact how much you are paid even if you had nothing to do with it? And as a follow up question, can this seriously impact your possibilities of being called for any role again or would that be based more of what casting directors think of your performance as opposed to how much you made the project earn? That’s pretty much all. Short post. Looking forward to any response.
