Animal Behavior Studies & the Alexander Technique

Taught at Alexandertech Works.

Animal studies are a step toward transforming as an actor into a character. The study of animals enables actors to act and react in new ways; to enrich and expand their own physical and emotional world to include surprising and new ways of moving and acting. This workshop will focus on finding the physical matrix of the character, a "hook" or an "anchor" which clearly expresses the stance, the walk, the gestures, the psychological and emotional life of the role within the given circumstances. Actors will find the body that corresponds not only to the logic of the text, but its rhythms and energy. Finding the right body, allows the words to be spoken with greater ease. The voice (and its energy and music) become a direct reflection of the body. And both become integrated.
