Actor Websites by Web For Actors - Born in Chandigarh, India, Mannu Sandhu moved with her family to Vancouver, Canada. She lived in Mumbai for some years and now lives in New Delhi, India. A noted celebrity in Vancouver, Mannu founded the Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival (VISAFF) and has curated it since then as Festival Director and Producer for nine stellar editions featuring the who’s who of the film fraternity and leading personalities. The themes of the film festival have focused throughout the years on strong social causes, especially lending a voice to issues that affect women. With sharp organizational strengths and wide networks in India and North America, Mannu brings connections and partnerships developed over the years with business patrons, creative arts & design networks, film fraternity, social influencers, political leaders, community organizations and philanthropic foundations. With a strong arts administration background, Mannu graduated from the Justice Institute of British Columbia. During her school and college years, Mannu was always drawn to community building projects. Her forte was fundraising for campaigns for causes close to her heart. In fact, she won the Miss Universe Canada 2011 Humanitarian Award for raising the most funds for the SOS Children's Village project, a project designed specifically to build three computer centers for children in the SOS Nicaraguan center. Exploring her way onward, she also became engaged full time as a Correctional Officer for the Government of British Columbia. This role offered heightened exposure to societal problems at an early age and instilled in Mannu an even greater sense of purpose and an urgency for social reform. As she found herself working with young men and women who were in the correctional facility because of bad choices and decisions - be it through drugs, alcohol abuse, gang affiliations, weapons or assault - Mannu became all the more conscious of her inner calling to contribute to the community and determined to create positive alternatives for all. Mannu threw herself into charitable work. She devoted a great deal of time to various charities and non-profit organizations such as the BC Children's Hospital, Sikh Blood Donation; Pakistan Flood Relief, Salvation Army, Operation Canada, Mannkind Charitable Society. Given her advantage of being a prominent figure as a famous festival director, Mannu leveraged her celebrity platform to build collective consciousness around causes she was passionate about. She focused on all aspects of women’s economic empowerment and ending violence against women especially in the South Asian community in Canada. She feels strongly that women, all over the world, are mistreated and the object of deeply ingrained prejudice.
