Otherwise known as a "writing sample", this is a script that a screenwriter writes for the purposes of showcasing his/her talent as a writer. Most of the time, when deciding to write a sample, a screenwriter will do so without the intention of selling or producing that script. In this way they don't need to worry about budgetary, casting or any other creative constraints.
